The ARX-01 is hardware, yes, but does it come with all that is needed? The SD 2.0 comes with bells and whistles. The ARX-01 is 40% more expensive than the SD 2.0 package.

If that is not included in the ARX-01 package, I know how to download as long as Roland provides a download link with the goodies. You have 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 etc Hihat grooves, shuffles, fills, etc and it is easy for an non-drummer to puzzle together and convincing drumtrack in no time.

I'd prefer Roland to provide us with a MIDI library (RPS/SMF) that integrates with the Fantom G in the likes of what the EzDrummer software comes with. It is nice that one can tweak the drums, but I'd love to have a nice wide variety of useful preset kits 'out-of-the-box'. I need ready kits that come in different flavours and depths that will fit a mix fast. What I do need is a Radio King, A Black Beauty, a Brass piccolo, Maple 15", Finnish Birch Jazz Snare etc kinda way of different indivdual drums and cymbals, then Tama, Premier, DW, Sonor kits in different rooms + 808, 909 etc classics.

What kind of kits does it really have? How do they really sound in musical context? Is there versions of the kits? We saw in the videos that you can push the individual drums to extremes, but who really does that? I don't need a 2" snare. Maybe Dan could make a better video of it? I get the feeling Roland doesn't want to sell it! I can not get a clear picture of the ARX-1 either. Superior Drummer comes with a shitton of extremely usable MIDI-files played by real studio drummers and the mixer settings seem very useful and flexible for any music style.ĭoes the ARX-01 have anything in that manner or is it 'roll-your-own'? Actually, I have almost no idea what comes with the ARX-01 out-of-the-box. I am having a bit of a hard time getting any fair realistic view about the ARX-01 as a product compared to the overwhelming making-of documentaries and product videos on the Toontrack site (url posted above). Let's talk pros and cons, ok? I want to hear what kind of thoughts people have on these two products both individually and comparing them. Superior drummer would be running on my 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook with 2Gb (or 4Gb?) of memory + Apple Logic express. **Roland ARX-01 Expansionboard Drum**, with SuperNATURAL Technology, Drum Sound Library, Compressor/EQ, Reverb, Multieffects, Mixer for Volume and Pan at **327€** more info.

**Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0**, Drum-Plugin with large Library, 5-Band EQ, Hi- & Lo-Pass Filter, Compressor, Gate and Transient designer, professional Midi-Files, DVD - PC/MAC - VST/AU/RTAS/Stand alone at **235€** more info: I've narrowed things down to two products at the moment.

I am looking to expand a bit on the drum side here at my home studio.
